Paul Clark, PhD (Cand), Board Member

Paul Alexander Clark serves as Senior Director for Research and Programming at the Health Management Academy (Alexandria, VA) developing and leading a research agenda to assist Academy members, the c-suite executives of America’s largest health systems, in management decision-making. 

Prior to joining The Academy, Mr. Clark served as Director of Knowledge Management at Press Ganey Associates, where he led a team of researchers conducting quantitative and qualitative research to determine best practices for improving health care quality. He also managed the Internet presence for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the launch of two leading peer-reviewed scientific journals.   

Mr. Clark has authored two books: Making it Right: Healthcare Service Recovery Tools, Techniques, and Best Practices and Patient Satisfaction and the Discharge Process: Evidence-Based Best Practices. He authored chapters in Professionalism in Tomorrow’s Healthcare System and Improving Healthcare with Better Building Design.  His research has been featured at dozens of conferences and published in numerous journals, including the Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Safety, Patient Education & Counseling, Journal of Healthcare Quality, Quality Management in Health Care, Journal of Nursing Care Quality, Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing, Journal of Ambulatory Care Management, Health Marketing Quarterly and Organizational Ethics: Healthcare, Business, and Policy. 

Mr. Clark earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Public Administration in Science and Technology Policy from George Mason University (Fairfax, VA), a Master of Arts in Bioethics and Healthcare Policy from the Loyola University Chicago, and a Masters of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC).  He is a doctoral candidate in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
